The trail is approximately 7 km round-trip and takes about 2 hours to ascend and 1.5 hours to descend. We recommend being in good physical condition and acclimatizing to the altitude in Cusco for at least 2-3 days before the hike.

Alternatively, horses are available for rent at the trailhead for those who prefer not to hike.

Yes, horses are available for rent at the trailhead for an additional cost (approximately 70-100 PEN or $20-30 USD). This is a great option for those who prefer not to hike the entire way.

We’ll pick you up early from your hotel and begin the drive through the South Valley of Cusco.
6:00 AM – Breakfast in Cusipata
Stop in the village of Cusipata for a hearty breakfast to fuel up for the day ahead.
7:30 AM – Arrival at the trailhead
After a scenic drive, arrive at the starting point of the hike (4,600 meters / 15,092 feet). Meet your guide and begin the trek to Rainbow Mountain.
9:30 AM – Reach Rainbow Mountain (5,020 meters / 16,466 feet)
After a moderate 2-hour hike, arrive at the iconic Rainbow Mountain. Take in the breathtaking views, capture photos, and learn about the geological and cultural significance of this natural wonder.
10:30 AM – Optional hike to Red Valley
For those seeking more adventure, continue the hike to the stunning Red Valley, known for its dramatic red landscapes (additional 45 minutes).
